He is redefining the steelpans as a signature jazz instrument. NPR This power trio under the direction of steel pan player Jonathan Scales creates a sound that defies categorization. With a mix of jazz, classical and progressive rock with Latin rhythms and funky outbursts, the Fourchestra moves effortlessly between explosive solos and quiet, meditative passages, drawing the audience into a musical world unlike anything heard before. For nearly two decades, Jonathan Scales has been redefining the steel pan as a serious jazz instrument. The Fourchestra will release its eighth studio album "RE-POTTED" this year. Written and arranged in a trio, the three musicians explore what it means to turn things upside down and tackle new things. Packed with technical finesse, rhythmic inventiveness and serious improvisation, their music is a real discovery. This trio is certainly one of the most original jazz ensembles internationally at the moment.
