Eric Johanson @ Nica Jazz Club 2026-11-18
Eric Johanson, Will Repholz en Jake Gartenstein live in Nica Jazz Club, Hamburg
An impressive mix of rock, blues, soul, and its own unique, modern musical influences. Guitarist and singer Eric Johanson from New Orleans combines sharp songwriting with iconic guitar sounds. He creates music that is dynamic and at the same time soulful – a mix of rock, blues, and modern musical influences. His playing is remarkably expressive – sometimes riff-driven and rhythmic, sometimes flowing and melodic – and it always serves the song rather than overshadowing it. His sound has something raw and purposeful, drawing on the rock and soul tradition. At the same time, he strives for something new with his compositions. Whether he’s channeling the swampy pulse of his hometown New Orleans or leaning on heavier, distorted, original textures, Johanson’s music strikes a balance between power and finesse, strength and restraint. As the magazine American Songwriter puts it, with his scorching guitar playing, compelling songwriting, and inventive melodies and lyrics, he pushes the boundaries of blues/rock.
